Sunday, 23 September, CERNOBBIO (Italy): Spirit of Qatar’s Ali Al Neama and Matteo Nicolini produced a simply stunning performance in this afternoon’s thriller on Lake Como to win race 2 of the Italian Grand Prix.
With Victory pushing hard to catch their teammates, Spirit of Qatar 96 were unable to match their pace but a race podium to add to their pole position win on Friday completed a good weekend for Sheikh Hassan and Steve Curtis, with Curtis satisfied that they had done all they could from where they started. “I don’t think we could have done much more from sixth place. We ran a long set-up so we were pretty fast and we made a reasonable start. But we got hosed down a couple of times in the fight with Victory and Fendi and lost a little power. But we are satisfied with a podium.”
Team Abu Dhabi’s Rashed Al Tayer and Majed Al Mansoori made it a UAE one-two finishing ahead of Ali Al Neama and Matteo Nicolini in Spirit of Qatar 95 to complete a podium lock-out for the Middle East teams.
The Championship leaders’ led from the start and were clear of pole-sitters Spirit of Qatar 96 when the red flag was shown and the race immediately stopped when FA.RO ACCIAI turned over at the first turn. Thankfully both crew members emerged unhurt through the escape hatch in the upturned hull and were taken back to the pits by the rescue team. “It all happened in a split second” said driver Gian Maria Gabbiani. “We were going well and the next thing we know the boat suddenly flipped and we are not sure why. It’s a big pity for us because the team has worked so hard for this race on home waters.”

Isola Comacina, the only island on the lake has a tremendous Locanda. Not to compare with a ristorante, as the menu has not changed since 1947.
Visit Lake Como Italy video shot today of a Hydrofoil superfast boat.
Hydrofoils let a boat go faster by getting the hull out of the water. When a normal boat moves forward, most of the energy expended goes into moving the water in front of the boat out of the way (by pushing the hull through it). Hydrofoils lift the hull out of the water so that you only have to overcome the drag on the foils instead of all of the drag on the hull.
The foils on a hydrofoil boat are much smaller than the wings (foils) on an airplane. This is because water is about 1000 times as dense as air. The higher density also means that the foils do not have to move anywhere near as fast as a plane before they generate enough lift to push the boat out of the water.
The hydrofoils generate lift only when they are in the water; if they leave the water, the boat will crash down onto the surface of the water (and thus submerge the foils) until the foils generate enough lift to lift it back out.

The South and North walls, and the lower part of the apse of the medieval church are well preserved. The surface of the wall is very regular with large square ashlar blocks and Lombard bands at the uppermost course of the wall. The original interior of the wall has been lost due to alterations. the ceiling, covered with cross vaults, has been lowered and replaced with a barrel vault. A crib, a basin and a stone bench have been propped against the partially preserved walls. The two small apses are still well preserved.

Remains of Roman marble columns preserved beneath the church of St. John, early Christian evidence such as the usual biabsidate room with wall frescoes and mosaic fragments, and numerous remains of Romanesque churches, among which the crypt of the basilica of St. Euphemia and Stonework of the square complex of SS. Faustino and Jovita: All this constitutes the precious heritage of Comacina along with many artifacts that were recovered during archaeological campaigns that are displayed in the museum in Ossuccio Antiquarium.

Lake Como, Italy has long been a haven for celebrities seeking reprieve from the spotlight. It is not uncommon to see Catherine Zeta Jones, Robert De Niro, or Madonna dining at a local restaurant. But when George Clooney fell in love with the place nine years ago, the tiny town was transformed from casual celebrity hangout into a paparazzi paradise. It might never be the same. Laglio on the west shore of the Lake is best known for it's celebrity status when George Clooney bought his Villa Oleandra back in 2002.

Visit Lake Como Italy Photograph of Restaurant La Griglia in S. Anna Schignano Argegno. The business is run within the same family since 1970 and is ideal for banquets and family parties. The food is superb and very well priced. Its a small hotel and the cuisine is second to none. We have been there plenty of times and they never disappointed. Euro 50 for a 2 course lunch with wine, water and coffee and the most important -A service with a smile.
During the main season from April until October La Griglia is open every day. Only during the winter months are they closed on a Wednesday. Booking of a table is highly recommended, especially on a Saturday evening and Sunday lunch, which is very popular with the locals.Phone 031 821147
The Menu is fresh, tastes home cooked and specialises in local Valtellina cuisine with a dominance of game accompanied by the most amazing polenta we have ever tasted.
This is the garden view and we really enjoyed the piece and quiet during our visit, as mostly everybody wants to sit inside next to the cosy fire in the corner.

View of the Lake from Madrona on the way up to Monte Bisbino on your visit to Lake Como Italy.Today we went on our bike and cycled up Monte Bisbino, the Treck starts in Cernobbio through Rovenna and Madrona. It took us 2.5 hours but we've been overtaken by the more serious cyclists, but as a beginner it's not bad to do it under three hours. Difficulty is moderate but basic endurance is required. There is a small Refuge on the top which is open weekends and serves home made food and pasta.
